Revolution Bars Group takes on the 2017 Lincoln Half Marathon Corporate Challenge

Posted by on 22nd September 2017

It’s one thing to run a half marathon and another thing to run a half marathon as part of a team competing to be the fastest business in Lincoln. Yet the challenge is on and the very first Lincoln Half Marathon Corporate Challenge takes place in less than two weeks, on Sunday 1st October 2017. Businesses from across the city are gearing up to compete against each other on what promises to be a day of superb sporting achievement and thrilling atmosphere in the beautiful setting of historic Lincoln.

Lining up at the start and hoping to become the first Lincoln Corporate Challenge Champions are Revolution Bars Group, a premium cocktail bar and restaurant in the centre of Lincoln.

Revolution is entering a team of 10 runners, headed up by team captain Ellen Kelman, aged 23, and including Oli Bartlett, Pete Booth, Charlie Cross, Charlotte Booth, Michael Fox, Charlie Lane, Natasha Lilley, Craig Corbin and Ross Wheatley.

What’s particularly inspiring is that most of the team are new to running, so taking part in the race is certainly taking them out of their comfort zone whilst allowing them to experience the many benefits of running and training together.

The race is also an ideal opportunity to raise money for charity, and Revolution has chosen to support an extremely worthwhile cause, The Ethan Maull ‘Up Yours to Cancer’ Foundation, an official race charity. The Ethan Maull ‘Up Yours to Cancer’ Foundation is raising money to help fund a house close to Lincoln hospital where families can stay while their children are receiving prolonged cancer treatment. The Foundation was set up by young cancer patient Ethan Maull, who died in 2014 aged 10, and all money raised at the Lincoln Half Marathon and Corporate Challenge will be a step towards creating ‘Ethan’s House’.

Revolution has pledged to match all funds raised by its team up to £1,000, giving them extra encouragement to raise as much as possible to really make a difference. Revolution’s JustGiving page can be found here.

Raising money for such a brilliant local cause is inspiration enough, but Ellen and her team are particularly enjoying the challenge and working together as a team in preparation for the Lincoln Half Marathon Corporate Challenge. It is proving to be an excellent opportunity for team building, getting fit and having fun.

“We all vary greatly in fitness levels and motivation, but it’s going well so far,” confirms Ellen. “Some of us have done training sessions together and some prefer to train alone, but we always update each other on our group chat and give each other encouragement.

“Oli and Pete competed against each other at school, so there’s definitely a bit of rivalry there and it will be fun to see how they get on! Plus of course we’d like to wish good luck to all other teams!”

The Lincoln Half Marathon Corporate Challenge takes place as part of the Lincoln Half Marathon, which is celebrating its second anniversary this autumn and takes runners through the vibrant harbour of Brayford Wharf and up to the magnificent landmarks of Lincoln Castle and the medieval Cathedral, before finishing at the Lincolnshire Showground.

Race Director Iain Hamilton commented: “The Lincoln Half Marathon Corporate Challenge is set to be a hugely entertaining and competitive part of race day, and we are very much looking forward to welcoming businesses from across Lincoln to this exciting new event. It is not too late to enter and we would encourage any teams who are race fit to get involved and earn themselves a medal to be proud of!”

Late entries to the Lincoln Half Marathon Corporate Challenge are being accepted until 25th September. The cost is £150 for a team of 5 (minimum), and £30 for each additional team member. Scores are calculated by adding the total chip time of the fastest male and female from each team, giving all teams a fair chance to win no matter the size of the team. The winning team will receive a trophy with their company name on it and guaranteed entry to the 2018 event, plus of course the honour of being named the fastest company in Lincoln.

The Lincoln Half Marathon and the Lincoln Half Marathon Corporate Challenge start at 9.30am on Sunday 1st October. There are two official charities for 2017, Cancer Research UK and The Ethan Maull ‘Up Yours to Cancer’ Foundation.
