Outlaw is best for beginners!

Outlaw is best for beginners!

Posted by on 9th January 2017

220 Triathlon Magazine ran a feature last week about the best long-distance events for beginners. We were very excited to see the Outlaw come out on top against some of the best events in Europe! The article is HERE

The Outlaw was first established in 2010, and we modelled it on the best bits from events we had done ourselves. We also benefit from a generally flat natural environment in Nottingham. We aim to mix our experience with the fact the National Watersports Centre in Nottingham provides a brilliant spectator friendly racing environment.

In our own humble opinions, these are the factors that we think makes the Outlaw friendly for first timers, and those who keep coming back year-after-year of course!

  1. Swim is REALLY easy to navigate. It’s a simple out and back swim where you follow the banks of the regatta lake.
  2. The bike course is generally flat, but beware of the winds and remember that 112miles should never, ever be considered ‘easy’.
  3. The run is flat and includes a mix of hard and softer surfaces so there’s variation, but it’s still quick (and accurate, we got UKA to measure it).
  4. There are spectators everywhere!
  5. There are hundreds of volunteers and race crew members to help you; nothing is too much trouble for our crew!
  6. You can camp on site. Roll out of bed on race morning and you’ll virtually be on the start line. There are also plenty of great hotels within 2 miles of the venue.
